Canyoneering is an outdoor activity that combines route finding, rappelling, bouldering, swimming, and hiking, typically through slot canyons in western United States. Zion National Park is considered to be a premier places to participate in canyoneering.
Birch Hollow is one of the upper drainages that empties into Orderville Canyon and then into Zion Narrows. The hike can be made in two parts, which makes for shorter and more enjoyable trips. This is such a popular canyoneering trip, the Park Service has installed permanent anchors above each drop. The longest drop is 120 vertical feet.

(Note to file: Wear long pants next time.)
Pine Creek is another popular canyoneering trip in Zion National Park. We made the trip when there was no running water in the creek, but at various places there were pools of water that we had to swim across. No hiking is required to reach the trailhead because the trip starts where the highway bridge crosses the canyon. The bad part is that the canyon is so narrow and so deep it was very difficult to take pictures, even using a flash on the camera.
