RonnieAdventure #0551 - Black Canyon, Colorado River, Nevada-Arizona

In the summer of 2003, some of Linda's family relatives visited us from Denmark. The one thing they really wanted to do was take a trip on the Colorado River, so we arranged for one-day raft trip through Black Canyon. The trip started just below Hoover Dam and exited down-river at Willow Beach. They could not believe the temperature in the Las Vegas area. They kept saying "45-degrees C, 45-degrees C!" Fortunately, the raft stopped frequently so that everyone could get cooled off in the river.

At one of the stops we found a large Chuckwalla hiding in the shade of a rock overhang. No one wanted to get too close, so I took a picture for them.

We were also fortunate to see some Bighorn sheep that had come down to the river to get a drink of water.

Hans was a ferry boat captain in Denmark, so he wanted to drive the raft for a short distance.

Before reaching Willow Beach, there was wooden scaffolding attached to the side of the canyon wall that had been used by workers, but was no longer in service. This looks like it may have been exciting to walk on the scaffolding.

While the Danes were in Las Vegas, we also took them to see the Bellagio, Venetian, Luxor, Fremont Street, and Red Rock NCA - all when it was 45 degrees C! They even had their picture taken with Luciano Pavarotti.
