RonnieAdventure #0206 - Mexico -2016

One of my biggest surprises on this trip was Cabo San Lucas ("Cabo"), Mexico. I had always envisioned Cabo as a small, sleepy fishing village with a few adobe shacks scattered around the peninsula and fishermen sitting on the beach mending their nets. Apparently, I was about 75 years too late!

Cabo is now one of the five top tourist destinations in Mexico with numerous resorts and timeshares. It has also become a playground for the rich and famous, particularly Californians from Hollywood and Silicone Valley. The days of cheap Mexican prices are a thing of the past.

The harbor is too shallow for the large cruise ships to dock, so once again we were taken ashore using the ship's tenders. Since there were two other large cruise ships in port, it was a boat traffic jam just for the tenders to dock -- and the streets around the harbor were really crowded.

Since most of the tours were sold out by the time we arrived in Cabo, we decided just to walk over to the other side of the harbor and enjoy some of the less crowded areas. One of my favorite places was a shop that sold fishing signs.

At the end of the day, the ship pulled anchor for our last time on this trip and we headed out to sea. In two days we would be in the Port of Los Angeles. (The port is actually in San Pedro.)

Arriving in the Los Angeles Port, I just happened to look out the window as the ship passed the Port's breakwater, so I quickly gathered my camera and photographed our entry to the cruise ship terminal. I knew we were home when we went past the USS Iowa because the parking lot for the Iowa is shared by the cruise ship terminal. We had a late disembarkation time, so it was fun to stand on the balcony and watch all of the activity as the dock workers unloaded and loaded the ship for a later departure that same day.

There was a rental car outlet a few blocks from the terminal, so decided to rent a car and spend the day with family in the area. We were also able to watch our granddaughter play basketball the next day and cheered her team on to a win. (We returned later to watch her team win the area tournament championship.)

We also made it back from the cruise in time to attend our daughter's graduation from her Master's Degree program.
