RonnieAdventure #0680 - Santa Rosa, New Mexico, to Arizona

When I stopped at the Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa (population 2,850), New Mexico, Ashley said: "Not another car museum." I had to explain that this was not just "another car museum," this was a "Route 66 Auto Museum." She said that after awhile they all looked the same.

Someone finally found a use for an old Edsel. It is difficult to read the shovel lettering, but is says: "Shovel Ready FEMA Edsel."

In addition to vehicles, the museum contains automotive memorabilia in the front lobby and around the museum walls.

We stopped by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque (population 564,559), but none of the buildings were open.

West of Albuquerque we crossed the Continental Divide, so from this point on it was all downhill to California. The Indian Market across the road from the marker was not open; thus, no souvenirs at this stop.

We were hoping to find some Navajo Tacos in Gallup (population 21,899), New Mexico, but the restaurant we stopped at was closed. As we were leaving town we drove past the Kachina Welcome Statue and the Paso Por Aqui art sculpture, often referred to as "Galoop," short for Gallup + Loop. The name Paso Por Aqui translates to "passed through here."  It was funded by the 1 Percent For the Arts council and built by sculptor Charles Mallery.

When we passed into Arizona, we were in the Navajo Nation, which is also part of northwest New Mexico. Before we reached Flagstaff, we were treated to a beautiful Arizona sunset.
